What is the Ohio Early Literacy Crosswalk?

The Ohio Early Literacy Crosswalk is a cross-reference to help librarians and other early childhood professionals understand how the first and second editions of Every Child Ready to Read® @ Your Library® relate to each other and to two early literacy frameworks used in early childhood education:
  • Ohio Department of Education Early Learning and Development Standards (ELDS): Language and Literacy Development Domain
  • Head Start Child Development & Early Learning Framework: Language and Literacy Domains

By uncovering similarities among the frameworks, the Crosswalk facilitates programming, training, and education by librarians, and collaboration between librarians and other early childhood professionals, to boost the school readiness of young children. The Ohio Early Literacy Crosswalk was inspired by a Skill Comparison Crosswalk (PDF) created by Saroj Ghoting for Washington, DC and the DCPL STAR Initiative.

How do I use the Crosswalk?

  • Start from any of the overview links below or from any of the overview or crosswalk links on the side navigation panel.
  • Each overview page provides a description of the framework, and allows a user to continue to the crosswalk pages within that framework.
  • Each crosswalk page describes the framework's skills/practices/outcomes/standards.
  • Crosswalk pages for ELDS and Head Start show how each relates to ECRR1 and ECRR2 (Please note that a direct comparison of ELDS and Head Start Outcomes is outside the scope of this Crosswalk).
  • Crosswalk pages for ECRR1 and ECRR2 show how each relates to the other and to ELDS and Head Start Outcomes.
